‘BBC Blast’ A Blast of FUN for teenagers aged 13 to 19 years 1st – 3rd October 2009 Outside the Bridges shopping centre in the Green Terrace A wide variety of Free multi-media workshops and classes suitable for teenagers of any ability.
There’ll be a massive "media village" that will consist of trucks that open up into studios and workshop spaces alongside a performance marquee.
· Music - Music : Hip Hop Production with leading industry professional Baby J and Music Remix with producer Tim Saul. · Photoshop and Comic Life with professional photographer, Kwame Lestrade. · Animation – full-day mixed-style workshop with Jonathan Wright. · Radio Journalism – get some top tips from Kath Melandri. · Improvisation - Work with BAFTA nominated improv troupe Mac and Fox in this quick thinking workshop with comedy at the core! · Learn how to make your Poems slam and enter SLAMbassadors - a UK-wide Slam Poetry Competition with unique prizes.
Creative young people aged 13 -19 will soon be able to unleash their imagination in a series of free workshops in Sunderland, run by BBC Blast. BBC Blast is a unique scheme that encourages and supports teenagers who want to start a career in the creative industries, such as music, dance, fashion, film, art or design. It provides access to industry professionals online, gives young people the opportunity to showcase their talents, enter competitions and get exclusive access to selected work experience placements. Each year, as part of the scheme, the BBC takes Blast on a national tour, giving teenagers the opportunity to get some hands-on experience and training in a wide variety of free multi-media workshops. This year, for the first time, the BBC has chosen Sunderland as one of the destinations on the tour. BBC Blast will be bringing professional equipment and media industry experts to the town centre from Thursday 1st to Saturday 3rd October, building an impressive mobile creative village behind the Bridges Shopping Centre, complete with digital workshop spaces and a separate performance area. Teenagers can use state-of-the-art equipment to produce their own work with advice and support from industry professionals, including BBC production staff.
