Girlguiding UK, of which we are a part, is the worlds oldest all female group (now a charity).

Founded by Olive Baden-Powell in 1910, the Association has seen major changes in its time and has adapted superbly.

Commissioners Welcome

Hello everyone,

I hope you have all heard now that our new NEE Chief Commissioner is Hilary Cooper from North Tyneside, a popular choice.  Hilary has decided to have a team of four Deputies to help her with the role and I am delighted and proud to be part of that team with responsibilities for supporting the Northern Counties. Mmmm yes another adventure!

The hand over was at the NEE Annual Review earlier this month.  It was a lovely day and it was good to see some of you there. The Chief Guide, Liz Burnley was the speaker who was as ever, enthusiastic and inspiring

Well I hope you all enjoyed the Easter break and have your batteries recharged, as there are exciting times ahead as we move closer to the Centenary celebrations beginning with our ‘Party in the Park’ on 5th September.

I look forward to seeing you there with your girls and their guests.  Do you know who you’re bringing along?  I expect most of the guests will be mothers, grandmothers and aunties (that’s the case with our Brownies) so there won’t be a problem finding adult supervision!  This is also an opportunity to show members of the public who we are, what we do and perhaps some may decide to join us as supporters, unit helpers or perhaps even leaders!

I’m delighted to see the membership numbers in the County have increased yet again with ‘13’ new units opening in the last 12 months which is wonderful news!  The number of leaders has also increased!  Thank you for your enthusiasm and commitment to Guiding.  Many more girls are having the opportunity to join Guiding which is great news.

There is lots of news and opportunities in the newsletter – take a look and remember to show your assistants, or you can order them their own copy (an allowable expense from the unit funds).

There are trainings for everyone including new leaders and our County Weekend at Waddow which is always popular.  If you haven’t been there yet why not come along this year.  It’s a chance to learn new activities for your unit meetings, make new friends and chill out in comfortable surroundings.  £38 for an inclusive weekend away is great value.

There are also details of the County training Day in November, a date for your diary and opportunity to book early, please bring someone with you, especially new leaders who I’m sure would welcome a buddy.

Check out the Rainbow Fun Day – always a great day and popular, also the In4mer training weekend and NEW NEE Senior Section leader’s weekend – at Waddow.

Look forward to seeing you at County events and have fun

Pat
